The 3rd World Traditional Wushu Championships BACK

The 3rd Annual World Traditional Wushu Championships, hosted by the Wudang Mountain Martial Arts Community, the International Martial Arts Federation, and the Chinese Wushu Association, was a great success and ended in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, under the historic Wudang mountain on Nov.13! More than two thousand martial arts athletes from China, England, USA, Poland, Russia, Greece and sixty-nine other countries and regions gathered at the World Cultural Heritage site, Wudang Mountain, for a martial arts exchange.

After two premlinary trial rounds held in earlier competitions, Master Chen was chosen to be one of ten elite martial artists representing the Wudang Team in the Traditional Wushu World Championships, as well as to exchange Wushu with other martial arts masters from around the world. Master Chen naturally obtained excellent results, winning in the following categories!

Wudang Sword, gold medal: Taiyi Xuanmen Sword;

Wudang Internal form, silver medal: Wudang Longhua Quan (Dragon Fist) form;

Wudang Horsehair Whisk fighting against Wudang Sword, gold medal, performed by Master Chen and Master Qin Fengzi;

Wudang Xuangong, group gold medal.

The Wudang Team won 10 gold medals total at this championship with the help from the outstanding performances from Master Chen!

Despite the great success and international recognition Master Chen stays grounded and focussed on guiding his students in their pursuit of developing strong Wudang martial arts.

Chinese martial arts, in general, reflect a focus on the features ”Xing, Qi, Li, Yi, and Shen”, and fighting martial art places too much emphasis on beautiful and difficult movements.

Thinking of this, Master Chen summed up his opinion of the three essential aspects of martial arts, as ”Sheng, Fa, and Yi”, which he uses to guide and train his own movements. All the other participants used these same aspects, however not to the extent that Master Chen did, which was the crucial reason for his success.

After all this, his students asked him, "What is it like to win so decisively? How can we accomplish this?”

Master Chen just smiled and said, "It is as natural as drinking water, feeling cold, or warming yourself. What you need to do is to make a solid foundation, or else you just have the movement without the intention (Yi), which would only be laughed at by others in the future!"

Although it seems hard to acquire these skills, Master Chen continues to encourage all his students to reach and surpass these goals, and although Master Chen is not a talkative man, with perhaps a cold exterior, he is actually very warm-hearted and determined to carry forward Wudang Wushu through the improvement of his own students.

Throughout the world today, Chinese martial arts are like flowers blossoming within a garden, with the beautiful fragrance wafting past the borders of the garden walls. People can not help but be reminded that Buddhism originated in India, but eventually took root in China!

In order to prevent the decline of Chinese martial arts, Master Chen has dedicated himself to promote and carry them forward with all his energy for the rest of his life! In so doing, he welcomes martial arts enthusiasts to come to our school to learn, and thereby further the special cultural heritage of China!
